    Chapter 4 - A new beggining
(Please remember that these chapters DO read in reverse order. You may have to scroll down in order to catch up on what's been happening.)

Cloise felt very tired, she decided to take a nap while Master Odekieser was in the shower. She laid down on the global destruction planning map, a very large and comfortable evil-lair prop. The moans and creaks of the plumbing in the walls lulled her into a deep sleep. The sound lurched and stopped when Odekieser finished his shower, but Cloise didn't wake. Master Odekieser was dressed when he walked in, then he sat for a bit looking at Cloise while he sipped on a glass of champagne. She looked so cute. All rolled up like a little piece of overcooked bacon. Odekieser stroked his hair to make sure he got all of the shampoo rinsed out, but it squeaked too loud and Cloise woke with a start.

"S-Sorry master, I was just taking a little map?? nap. A??a nap. . . on the map that is..."

She faltered, and Odekieser remembered his villain?s duty to be impatient and cranky, he mustered up his deepest, most foreboding evil voice. "Better not happen again, Cloise, you know what will happen to you!" he said as he pointed back to the trap door. "Now, my schedule!"

"Right!" She scampered off, pulling pieces of paper here and dropping books there.

Odekieser followed her with a slow heavy stride and continued to sip champagne, "You know, Cloise, these so-called heros are all the same. The important part is finding their weakest point. You know, they're always caring about all kinds of nonsense, village this, girlfriend that. Do you have anything like that on this guy?"

"Well," said Close, "he does sort of have this thing for little furry creatures."

"Little furry creatures?? What, you mean, like, animals and stuff?"

"Yes, and he also seems to have a strong addiction to beanie babies."

"Perfect, a weakness like that could be exploited in so many ways..." he mused, "why on the planet would he care about little furry creatures?"

"Hey, you care about Snuggles." She winced. She could feel Odekieser looming behind her.

"You leave Snuggles out of this!" he roared, then he grabbed Cloise and spun her around, but then his temper turned again to thought, "He sounds like a real wuss," He eyed her with suspicion, "how can I be sure you're telling me the truth?"

Cloise's lower lip stuck out, "I'll have you know many brave men died to get you this information!" she knew she overstepped her boundary but she didn't care.

Odekieser stopped, a gear in his brain seemed to have skipped a turn. "They died just to get some information? I thought that only happened to good guys."

"Well usually it does," said Cloise, "but Lord Beringer is also a pretty charitable guy, and the only way they could get information was by invading one of those old retirement homes."

"Oh, well that explains everything. And the guy that survived?" Cloise just stared, now it was her gears that were missing some turns. Master Odekieser flashed with anger, "The guy that survived! The one that brought the information!! Who is he?"

But Cloise was still confused, then she stammered, "b??but I thought you only send your nameless thugs on spy missions."

"Oh, right, well find out who it is and I'll promote him to a dynamic-character toadie. He must be treated very well, that way I'll feel better about killing him when I decide to. Anyway, I'll worry more about that later, just tell me what's first on schedule today, please say it's pigeon hunting."

"Well actually, here your schedule says you have brunch with the beastly Lady Burmington at 8:00. Oh, and I'm supposed to remind you that she doesn't know you have a human form, you're supposed to show up as a HOLY PHLIRSHNICKITY SCHNITT!!"

    "It's HOLY PHLIRCKING SCHNITT, Cloise."

    "Oh. Right."

"Oh, and one other thing," Odekieser added with a watchful eye.

    "Yes, master?"

"You've got a major wedgie, take care of that would you?"

    "Oh, yes, thank you master."

With that, Master Odekieser leaped from the window, Coise wave at him, and a useless pile of Rodriques said "by, by, by, baby, by, by, by." and Snuggles almost waved also.

Chapter 3 - You might want to scroll down and read the first two chapters if you're new around here.
"Yes, being one of these humans does have it's perks." Odekieser turned for the door as he toyed with these thoughts in his head. "Of course, being my own true form is a heckuva lot more fun. Your body lets you do so much more when you're a HOLY PHLIRCKING SCHNITT!!!!!!!!"

Odekeiser's thoughts were dashed to pocket lint sized pieces as Cloise flung herself onto his massively broad back and draped her arms around his neck. "Oh Master!! You don't need to worry yourself anymore!"

Odekeiser reached back to grab Cloise off his back and flick her off, when he noticed there was a piece of paper Cloise had in her hands. It had today's date on it. He remembered that Cloise usually "hugged" him when she wanted to show affection.

"What's this little piece paper you have in your hands. I imagine it has something to do with a possible remedy to my problems."

"Oh, this, it's only today's schedule that I found somehow stuck to your back. I guess I used too much oil during your back rub last night. Would you like me to read it to you?" Cloise was somehow able to work her way around Odekieser's huge frame and was forcibly cradling herself in Odekieser's arms. "I'm sure you'll like what I have to say."

There was a more pressing thought on Odekieser's mind though . . . "What else did you find stuck on my back?"

    "Well . . . um . . . I found your wallet, the last issue of your magazine, Rodriquez . . . "

"You did get those off, didn't you?"

"Yeah, with some major damage," Cloise quickly rolled her eyes and stroked Odekieser's chest, "but that's nothing to worry about."

"Cloise, you just tried to sweet talk me into thinking nothing was wrong 2 minutes ago. It didn't work then, what makes you think it'll work now?"

"Oh, I just hate how you can read me like that. Oooohhhh . . . . yes, there is something wrong, terribly wrong."

Odekieser braced himself. After what happened this morning, the only news that could possibly be worse would be that Space Ghost Coast to Coast would be canceled. "What in this planet could it be . . . "

"well, um . . . I don't know how to put this delicately . . . but there was also something else stuck on your back. I'm not sure if this is going to be alright but . . . "

"Oh dear . . . Just tell me and get it over with."

    "Snuggles was on your back. I think he's dead . . . "

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Odekieser dropped Cloise on the floor as he threw out his arms in distraught melodrama.

"Sorry, I couldn't tell much just by looking. He's right behind you if you want to look."

Odekieser turned around only to be surprised. Snuggles his pet was on the ground in a heap of fur, but the only thing that was abnormal was that he looked like he was the remains of a wig that was doused in to much gel. "Cloise, didn't you say he was dead?"

"Huh? But he didn't move when I picked him off your back. He just sat there on the floor in that little crusty ball."

"Oh? that's nothing to worry about, it's just that Snuggles doesn't move about too much. He's just a bit old that's all. Isn't that right Little Snuggies?" Odekieser bent down to rub behind what looked like an ear with his pointer finger. "He's a good boy, doesn't bark, always cleans after himself, doesn't get fur all over the place. I just get so happy when he stares up at me with those cute little eyes. Don't you think so?" Odekieser looked back at Cloise wearing the expression of a child watching the first half of Bambi.

"Uhh, yeah . . . cute . . . " Cloise didn't have bad eyesight, but she could not see any features on the animal. Not to mention anything that even closely resembled eyes. "Master, aren't you forgetting about the task at hand?"

"Oh yeah, that arch-nemesis thing. Yeah sorry I got distracted. Lemme just put Snuggs away." He finger-flicked Snuggles into the next room. "Now then, I believe you had something for me on that paper, Cloisey."

"Oh. Yes right here," it's hard to return affection when the other has just touched Snuggles, "It's today's schedule. Perhaps we should read it after you take a shower. I mean, after all, you haven't even gotten about to that yet this morning. And we wouldn't want to start the business day without doing that."

"Yes, I guess you're right. It has been a rather exciting morning, hasn't it. I suppose a shower could do me some amount of good. See ya in a few!"

"Yeah, see ya . . ." Cloise tried her best to return Odekieser's refreshed enthusiasm, but she had doubts on her mind. While the incident with Snuggles did set her off balance, what troubled her more was the makeshift plan for tonight. It was weak, flimsy, and required such a delicate manipulation that she wasn't sure if both Odekeiser and herself were up to the challenge.

That and she got a major wedgie that not even her skirt couldn't escape from climbing all over Odekieser at the first part of the chapter.

I said I'd wait for anyone to give me a suggestion, but I had this weird idea earlier today. Anyhoo, as usual, just tell me what to do, and I'll try and get about doing it. Just click the little button in the corner, leave an anonymous message with your name in it, and rejoice for helping out Retort. That, and have a good one.

p.s. Just so you know, I do listen! Thanks to Brady Dalton for giving me a suggestion on how to make this easier to read. Woo!!! Power to the people!!

    Chapter 2 -
Odekieser downed his breakfast with hardly any thought as he watched Cloise trot down the hallway to the library.

"An arch nemesis hmmm . . " Odekieser rubbed his chin. "Its been far too long since Ive had one of those. I do hope I haven?t grown too soft for it" He began to pace back and forth in his chamber. "In these late years, I've been filling my life with meaningless parties and wealth. What if I have been away from the action for too long. All the more reason to put him down before he becomes a threat"

That threat would need to be dealt with before the day's end and Odekieser couldn?t keep from feeling nervous. A way to take his mind off the upcoming event came to him suddenly

"The Pigeons!" Thousands of Pigeons lived in the city below and there were always several of them flying past Odekieser's hilltop manor as long as the sun was shining. Shooting down a couple dozen of the flying rats usually lifted his spirits a bit.

The stone walls of the hallway reverberated with the sound of Odekieser jogging out to the balcony. He never reached the balcony. Instead he slid to a halt two doors short of his destination upon hearing a familiar voice coming from inside.

"Oh, Oh dear.. This cant be right.. Oh no... "

This was the library and the voice belonged to Cloise. Odekieser pushed the door open and poked his head inside. The wonderful smell of old books and old wood paneling filled his nose.

The library was one of his favorite rooms. An enormous two floor room with an opening in the top floor and a vaulted ceiling.. It was almost like being outside. The library contained all of the books Odkieser had acquired in his life. Some of them well over two hundred years old. It also contained a large desk and file cabinet that Cloise used to manage his correspondence and schedule. She was there now with papers scattered everywhere looking very distressed and muttering to herself.

Odekieser's voice filled the room. "What seems to be the problem?"

Cloise jumped two feet into the air and upon landing quickly covered two of the papers she was looking at with a large book.

"Oh ahh nothing.. nothing at all!" She spurted.

Odekieser made his way over to the desk. In such close proximity he loomed over the small girl. "Something is wrong here. What did you just cover up?" He said, his voice becoming lower

"Ahh, Just something I was working on, nothing important." Cloise managed a weak smile and rocked back and forth on her feet.

"You know what happens when people try to deceive me dont you?" Odekieser's voice was almost a growl."

    "Y.. yes"

    "So tell me!"

"That schedule was for last friday" She almost whispered . . .

Odekieser's ears were good and he heard it plainly . . He stood frozen for a moment . . .

"Then the fellow that is supposed to rise to power . . ."

Cloise nodded without making eye contact and the room fell completely silent except for two increasingly loud heartbeats that Odekieser alone could hear.

Odekieser looked away for a moment. "I need some time to think about this" His tone was somber.

Looking back at Cloise his voice lowered once again. "I think you know what punishment this calls for."

Her now pale face shot upward. "No.. You cant mean"

"This was was a grave error on your part and now there are consequences to be paid" He paused a second or two. Cloise clinched her fists and began to shake. "Two days strait locked in a room with an overhead speaker system playing every boy band there is with some Aaron Cater thrown in for good measure"

"Noooooo!" Cloise screamed and fell to her knees "Please have mercy! I tried to keep the schedule in order! I really did!"

"Silence" Odekieser boomed, He already gripped a cord that opened up a trap door leading to the aforementioned room. "Do you have any idea how much trouble this is going to cause me?"

"But Sir!" Cloise was now pleading with her hands together and tears in her eyes, "Think about what happened to Rodriques!"

Odekieser glared at her. She had a point. Rodriques had been his bookkeeper before Cloise up until he had made a similar mistake. After the punishment he was able to do little more than drool and wet himself.

Cloise was too valuable to have her reduced to a similar state.

Once again Odekieser looked his maid strait in the face. "Did you get the information on this person I asked for."

Seeing a glimmer of hope, Cloise stuttered "Y-yessir I Found his birthplace, family history, his aquaintences, education, even love life!"

Yes.. She was far too valuable.

"Very well" Odekieser sighed "One month, no Internet."

Though she was terribly relived, Cloise couldn?t help from looking as though someone had just kicked her cat.

"Now then, First of all tell me who this person is and why he is now my arch nemesis,? Odekieser said beginning to pace back and forth once again.

Cloise rushed back to the desk and after shuffling through some folders produced a spreadsheet with an old news article of some sort attached to it.

?Well?.? She began ?His name is Leon Beringer. It appears that you burned his hometown to the ground when he was five. He was the only survivor."

?All this over a town?? Odekieser seemed surprised, ?So what was the name of this place?"

    ?Five lakes?

Odekieser seemed jolted for a moment but composed himself and replied ?No. Never heard of the place?

After Pursing her lips in thought Cloise had an answer.

?Come to think of it I think you once mentioned this place to me. It was the one with the cows?

An enormous grin spread over Odekieser?s face.

?Ho ho ho. Ahhh yes, the cows. I remember the place now. He he, those poor cows.? Odekieser chuckled as he entertained the memory a while longer. ?But really, this whole thing must have happened around fifteen years ago, and its not like they didn?t have it coming.?

    ?Twenty years ago? Cloise added.

Odekieser stopped pacing ?That would make him twenty five years old! What has taken him so long??

Cloise nodded. ?As far as I can tell he only discovered your connection to the incident five years ago. Since then he has been very active in politics and last Friday at nine forty five he became head of the New Five Lakes city state.

Odekieser groaned ?So I am facing a politician? I thought this was going to be interesting. Years ago he would have left, out sword in hand and eventually arrived at my doorstep with a hoard of angst or adventure driven young people by his side. The whole affair would have been over in three weeks."

?Well, he is also a master of two of the old world fighting styles and in addition to that he has begun recruiting mercenaries and other people with a grudge.? Cloise thought she saw sweat beginning to form on Odekieser?s forehead.

    The master retained his composition

?This may be quite an interesting development after all. Now. Show me the rest of the information you have on Lord Beringer. I need to know what he is capable of and who his allies are."

?Right away,? Cloise began to shuffle the papers around frantically. ?Umm.. I know its here somewhere. I can find it. It's got to be right around here.?
?Take your time,? said Odekieser trying to remain calm.

?Cloise is a smart girl but she has some . . . skills she needs to work on.? Odekieser said to himself.
Indeed he wondered why he was so lax with his maid. None of his other servants were shown this kind of leniency. However she tried so hard and showed so much promise. But, was that it? Was there a possibility he could actually be fond of this creature?

Cloise was, as far as he knew an abandoned child with no family he knew of. When he first met her she was an indentured servant of an Archduke he was visiting eight years ago. That same day he won her from the Archduke in a bet. At the time he was more interested in showing up his rival than acquiring a maid but now he couldn?t imagine getting along without her.

    Still . . . Fond of her . . . like that? No, Never.

Besides, mixing with them could only be trouble. Still, these people around him did make his life interesting enough to continue. Which is probably why he so enjoyed being one of them.

Chapter 1 - Good Morning, Master.
The alarm clock sounded through Master Odekieser's chamber in much the same way an egocentric guest at a social party makes sure that everyone hears his tales of woe that deal mostly with the inferior people they work with. Well, at least Master Odekieser's equvilant of an Alarm Clock, which to the untrained eye, was simply an exotic bird in a steel cage hooked up to a battery.

"Your breakfast is ready Master. I removed those chemicals just like you asked me to." Master Odekieser opened his eyes, from his veiw he could see his maid Cloise walk towards him on the celing. Odekieser readjusted himself upright to look Cloise in the eyes. The young lass had come in as she always had with the Master's breakfast looking like the remains a dragon's pipe.

Odekieser cleared his thought and began to think. "Thanks for the breakfast and all, but what do I have on the itinerary for today? Last night was so hectic I can't remember anything I have to do today for the death of me. Those people who knew you that dropped in at the party last night didn't help me get things done either."

Cloise calmly placed the Master's Breakfast on the floor in front of him while calmly pushing aside the faint memories of a flock of burning people running out the door. "Well, in a couple hours you're scheduled to pay a visit at Warbington, there's a luncheon at the Grand Dukes at High Noon. Let's see, your evening's stacked up as usual with several dinners with the local ladies. Oh yes, and you're set to squash your future arch nemisis before he rises to power at preciesly 9:15 P.M. tonight, followed by your back rub."

The Master thought about this for a second, "You did say 9:15, didn't you? Who is it anyways?"

Cloise looked sheepishly down to the floor. "Well, I can't remember right at the moment, I could run in the other room and look it up for you if you'd like, sir."

Odekieser was a bit disgruntled that Cloise hadn't done what was expected perfectly, but at least she had gotten the breakfast right. "That will do. Just come in and tell me by 4 tonight. I might need to reschedule my dinner appointments."

(Remember, comments, suggestions, are all welcome. So be sure to put in ANY thoughts of what you'd like to see happen next. Until next time, have a good day . . . )

    tell us a story . . .
well, I figure the best thing to do with this journal is to make it an interactive story!!!

The format's simple enough. just tell me what you want to happen, or write the next section, then I'll compile the entries post what happens in the next journal entry.

No rules or regulations or anything (just try to keep it somewhat clean), just a simple story to be created by everyone.

Unfortunately, I'd like some feed back as to what kind of story to make. So, if anyone wouldn't mind giving a suggestion. We'll start this thing tomorrow (tomorrow being 5/12/01)
